I was really interested in the powerpoint and presentation about the Medieval architecture. I really liked the culture and ideologies surrounding reliquaries and holy artifacts and how that affects the beliefs and architecture of the churches. Like in the fable of how there was a fire that wiped out almost all of the Chartres Cathedral, save the relics that they held. This affected the people within the community and it was the reason they rebuilt the cathedral as an even bigger and grander monument to Christianity.
I was also very intrigued by the portals of the churches and how their symbolic and practical purposes tied together in the way that they did. I appreciated the art on the Jambs and the Tympanum and I would be interested in the narratives and didactic art that was created due to the illiterate and uneducated general public. The effect that the church had upon the community in the sense of creating civic duty and teaching morals is very interesting to me and I would like to learn more about the effect of Christianity upon the local communities.
